Population and Labor ResourcesPopulation of Uzbekistan was more than 28 million people as of 01.01.2010 has a positive dynamics of increase of population (1,7% a year). 48,5% of the population are rural and 51,5% are urban (the biggest cities of Uzbekistan include Tashkent, Samarkand, Namangan, Andijan, Bukhara, Fergana, Nukus, Kokand, Karshi); in polyethnic terms (more than 100 nationalities, which have equal civil rights and possibilities); 81,7% of the population consists of the nation that gave the country its name. Labor resources of Uzbekistan are remarkable by a high level of educational and intellectual development: the level of literacy of the adult population in the republic makes up 100,0%; 43,5% of population which is involved in material production has higher and secondary professional education; the research of the Uzbek scientists in the sphere of mathematics, biology, physics, etc. are famous far abroad.
